NARS Officially Opens First Flagship Boutique In NYC!

Hey Glamazons! While I may have been busy primping and preening myself back to glam girl status today (Side note: We won't even discuss the atrocity of my roots before my visit to see my hair colorist Adrian Wallace over at the Rita Hazan Salon!) NARS founder Francois was busy officially opening his new West Village boutique.

Located here in New York at 413 Bleecker Street (because where else in America would you put such an amazing thing?!) the 525 square-foot space boutique boasts a black and white color scheme along with swipes of a glossy red (which just so happens to be the same shade of NARS' Jungle Red lipstick). There are floor-to-ceiling mirrors inside as well as three screens that will display various films created by the brand.

As Coutura previously reported, Francois collaborated with his long-time artistic collaborator and friend Fabien Baron (that's him pictured below inside the boutique with Francois) to create the design of the store. As to why he chose to put his boutique in the West Village, Francois had this to say:

"I love Bleecker Street. It's a cool, fun area with great shopping. The boutique is very intimate and chic and the exterior is very old West Village, which is nice. The Bleecker Street storefronts are extremely charming."

The store will house the full NARS cosmetics product line and special products that include a 413 Bleecker Bento Box and 413 Bleecker Pure Matte lipstick (both pictured below). It officially opens to the public tomorrow (2/10) and I definitely plan on stopping by! That is if I'm not passed out in the front of Lincoln Center from the exhaustion of flitting back and forth backstage to Fall 2011 shows in heels...ugh.

What do you think of the inside of the store, Glamazons? And who plans on nabbing the special limited edition lip products?! (That 413 Bleecker Pure Matte lipstick looks amaze, right?!)

BREAKING BEAUTY NEWS: Nars to Launch First NYC Stand Alone Store During Fashion Week

I knew this was going to be an exciting Fashion Week! On the first day of NYFW, February 10th, NARS will open the doors of its first-ever stand alone store, located in NYC. There goes my freelance writing paycheck!

Located on 413 Bleecker Street (yes, by Marc Jacobs, best shopping area ever), the store will kick off with a huge celebration, which we hope will include some amaze discounts. To start, Francois Nars tapped famous fashion photographer, Fabien Baron to design a limited-edition logo for the launch via Racked.com. Isn't it awesome?

There's more. The color scheme in the interior of the store was inspired by Jungle Red, one of the first NARS lipstick shades EVER (shown above). So...we're totes going to get a lifetime supply of Jungle Red lipstick at the opening party, right? A girl can dream.

Expect more limited-edition products for the store. Francois Nars dished in July to WWD: "I want the store to be special and interactive. I will do special items which will only be available in the store — palettes, maybe a nail polish called Bleecker Street — and I want to sell DVDs of my favorite movies. Marc [Jacobs] may do accessories. It’s going to be great." Indeed.

Are you excited for the launch (and the other stores to come)? New Yorkers, are you running in heels to the new NARS store?

Kisses,

Coutura

Francois Nars Gives Us Yet Another (Beautiful) Reason To Paint Our Lips...

Last month while visiting with a fellow beauty editor friend at the Allure magazine headquarters (yeah, that place is like heaven for a beauty junkie!) I spotted these black bowls containing some of the prettiest pigmentation that I've ever seen. Then I saw the little brush there with it and just knew that it was some sort of heavenly concoction to be painted onto your lips. Sigh. After asking permission to touch it (yes, it's that major) I swear that my pulse began to escalate at a higher rate than normal. It took all of Jesus and his disciples for me not to dip the little brush into the bowl and apply to my lips (after all, this was just a sample for photography purposes only) or to even put the whole box in my bag before leaving.

Here are some of the funky makeup looks Francois Nars created for the Marc Jacobs 2010 show also inspired by Kabuki makeup.

Fast forward to now and I see that the news is officially out so I can now share the scoop with you. According to T Magazine, Francois Nars created this limited edition Bento Box Set after drawing inspiration from a porcelain pot of lip stains used for kabuki actors in Japan. Basically, you dip the little wisteria-handled lip brush into the color and apply sparingly to your lips. While these two lipstick pots aren't something that you carry around for on-the-go touch ups and is super expensive ($125!) it would definitely make a beautiful Christmas gift for someone such as myself (hint, hint friends) or to any other special cosmetic loving amiga in your life.
The set isn't available until November 1 at Saks Fifth Avenue and Barneys New York, but you can pre-order now at narscosmetics.com/bento.
What do you think of this, Glamazons?! Do you love it just as much as I do?

GET THE LOOK (Spring 2011 Fashion Week Edition): Marc Jacobs

Alright, Glamazons. This is the one makeup look that made my heart stand still for about 2.5 seconds after first eyeing it. (Last season, the same thing happened after eyeing the beauty look from Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. show. It also didn't help that she was standing right next to me while chatting with her hairstylist Danilo. Talk about some major swoonage!)
But, back to Marc Jacobs. So (as you know from Coutura's previous post) the clothes from the Spring 2011 were all about the 1970's.
Once again, Marc teamed up with Francois Nars, Founder & Creative Director of NARS cosmetics (that's him above working backstage) to create the makeup look and Guido Palau from Redken to create the hair.
Inspired by Anjelica Houston circa 1970, Nars said that he wanted all of the models (60 to be exact) look "iconic with a modern approach."
"Marc had images of what he wanted the makeup to look like - mimicking the colors of the clothing but not matching exactly."
Nars painted around the eyes with this gorgeous glossy shade of deep green, added a tinge of pink to the cheeks (using 'Orgasm' of course) and rounded out the look with a matte lip color.
Here are the products that he used:

-NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (new for Spring 2011; for now, try a light application of the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation)
-NARS Night Porter Eyeshadow
-NARS Noveau Monde Duo Eyeshadow (new for Spring 2011; for now, try the olive side of the Earth Angel Duo Eyeshadow)
-NARS Celebrate Soft Touch Shadow Pencil (new for Spring 2011; for now, the the green side of Rated R Duo Eyeshadow)
-NARS Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara
-NARS Volga Pure Matte Lipstick
-NARS African Queen Lip Liner Pencil
-NARS Mambo Eyeliner Pencil

And did I mention that each of the models' eyebrows were bleached?! I did think that was a little bit extreme until I saw the finished look. After that, it made perfect sense!
For the hair, Palau created four different styles for the show: a finger curl; a graduated bob; a thick wave; and one that appeared to be a bunch of frizz with a side part. Each hairstyle style was inspired by the 1930's.
Check out the looks below and let us know what you think of it. Me? I plan on rocking that sexy, smokey hunter green eye like right now! (It's definitely giving me life.) The hair? While I appreciate the look of it, I don't think it's a style that I'd personally wear myself. (Although I do think the second look is pretty cute!)
