GLAM OR SHAM?: Rihanna's Curly Red Fro

I know that style is a non-conformist expression of self that is an honest reflection of one’s personality, innovation and grace. Trust me, I totally get it.

But when I saw Rihanna’s latest hair-don’t, I was genuinely dazed and confused. Now, don’t get me wrong, the girl is gorgeous has a banging body to match her beautiful face, and proves herself a regular red carpet favorite with impeccable style.

 

But, the first thought to come to my mind when I saw this hair was: "Really Rih-Rih? Did you actually wake up this morning, look in the mirror and see that fiery red hot mess on top your head and think to yourself, 'I look good?'"

We were just getting accustomed to the drastic style and color change of her hair that she debuted last year. And I must admit I loved her hair at the VMA's. She rocked a deeper shade of red with pretty ripple curls, but this new do is a no-no.

The Fashion Bomb said she looks like a mix between the Simpson’s Sideshow Bob and Cousin It (I’m chuckling at the accuracy of the comparison. Sad but true.).

Maybe she got a few hair tips from her rumored roomie/gal pal Nicki Minaj, who is known to channel the Bride of Frankenstein with her looks as well.

I think it’s a case of a good idea with a horrible execution. Whether it’s short, long, curly, or straight, I just can’t vibe with the fire engine red hair.

GLAM OR SHAM?: Estelle's Long Red Weave

Okay, before we start the Rihanna comparisons, let me get this out of the way:

(1) I like long hair on Estelle. It softens up her features and gives her a pretty, feminine look.

(2) The red is darker at the roots, which strays away from Rihanna's blinding bright hue.

(3) The couple of times I've met her she seemed like a generally sweet girl. LOL.

Now, that I've said that, Rihanna has successfully sparked another hair trend (with both Trina and Estelle rocking crimson coifs) but I can't say this one is particularly becoming on any of them.  

Estelle debuted this look during her show at the Key Club in Los Angeles last night and tweeted: “Newww haiirrrr don’t care (winter weave pt 2) yessss."

I'm all about a winter weave and a new hairstyle, but does this look work for her? You be the judge. Glam or Sham?

GLAM OR SHAM?: Rihanna's Red Long Weave PLUS A Gallery of All Her Red Hair Moments

There's no hiding that Ferocia and I are not fans of Rihanna's bright red hair, even when she first came out with the red short cut.

But now that she's let it go longer, the blogs claim she's vacillating between looking like the girl on the Wendy's logo to a grown-up Raggedy Ann.

LOL, that's terrible. Admittedly, when she pairs it with the right outfit like her Dolce & Gabbana polka dot jumpsuit, it looks bright and fun.

But now that she's went long, she looks pretty insane.

Now, I love Rihanna (she put on an amazing concert at Madison Square Garden) and the latest track off her album Loud, What's My Name with Drake, is my new favorite song.

But I find her latest hairstyle deeply disturbing. She has taken her bright red hair to unprecedented lengths with a long, straight weave and it looks more costume-y than ever. My vote is for the red to atleast be toned down; a deeper, more burgundy color could look gorgeous. 

And though Rihanna's a beautiful girl no matter how you style her hair, I prefer her with shorter locks to show off her facial features, don't you?

GLAM or SHAM?: Rihanna's Ragin' Red Hair

Rihanna ditched her two-toned blonde and black locks for a loud hue of red. The singer showed off her cropped red strands during a performance Saturday in Madrid. (Oh, and let's not forget her matching red nails and lips.)
