5 Minutes With Janelle Monae

As part of Fashion's Night Out last night, I was able to conduct a 5 minute interview with the amazingly cute (and talented!) singer Janelle Monae.
She was downtown at the MAC cosmetics store in SoHo and said that the reason she decided to do an appearance at MAC was because she simply loved the makeup. "It's all that I wear," she said.
Her fave product? The #35 Lashes!
Her fave fashion designer? Ralph Lauren because "his pieces transcend time."
After snapping a pic and getting an autographed CD of her latest album, I then put on the MAC Lipglass in On Display, hung out with the fun makeup artists in the store and then headed next door to the Rachel Rachel Roy pop up store. Check out my pics below!

Me and Janelle...she's so cute! Love her.

There was lots of bubbly....

And even an ice cream man outside passing out free ice cream! Loved it!!

Fashion's Night Out with Rihanna, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Estelle & Pharrell

Whew.

Fashion's Night Out was even more exciting and exhilarating than I expected. My only complaint is that it should have a whole week! It was IMPOSSIBLE to hit every event I wanted to in one night...and in 3-inch heels! I must say though, my friends and I made the most of the night. Let me start at the beginning.

After getting Minxed, I returned to the office for a run-through for our still life shoot the next day. Disaster ensued. Our boss wanted all new clothing samples and I literally had hours to get them all in. Fashion's Night Out was looking less and less likely but...when there's a will, there's a way.

While Rachel Roy tweeted about the shaggy fur vest that was flying off the shelves of her pop-up store (follow her at @rachel_roy), I packed, did inventory and sent sample requests in under 15 minutes. I slipped on my military jacket, Dereon black booties and leopard print clutch and hit the road.

Here's my friends, Patrice, Sandrine (who has an amazing art, fashion and lifestyle blog you have to check out!) and I hitting the road for Fashion's Night Out!

FIRST STOP: BILLIONAIRE BOY'S CLUB

We hopped in a cab downtown to the Billionaire Boy's Club flagship store in Soho. First of all, Fashion's Night Out in Soho felt like Halloween night for the fashion set. Everyone was dressed up and out on the town. There could have easily been a party outside - people were everywhere traipsing through the streets in heels and shades. The line in front of BBC in particular wrapped around the corner as "Faux-Rells" (our term for Pharrell wannabe's) littered the streets decked out in head-to-toe in BBC gear. One girl from Arkansas had been waiting on line for four hours to get a glimpse of Pharrell.

Inside, lucky shoppers enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and cupcakes, and chatted with the N.E.R.D. frontman as he worked the register. Kid Cudi made a guest appearance to the delight of the crowd that spilled onto the Soho streets and hung out with his fellow artist friend once inside the shop. Very cool!

Pharrell headed to Billionaire Boy's Club.

SECOND STOP: RACHEL RACHEL ROY

We made it through the Kid Cudi fan crowd out alive and sauntered over to the Rachel Rachel Roy pop-up store to check out the collection. If you are a true Glamazon fan, you know I am in love---wait, obsessed---with Rachel Roy's new collection for Macy's. Seriously. I've been talking about the pop-up store since the preview in May. My favorites from the collection, like the watercolor dress I adore, were all on sale for unbelievable prices. Even cooler? She hosted a twitter contest for a free pair of peace earrings. The first ten people who showed her tweet about the earrings won a pair! So glam!

While guests waited for the ladies of the hour, Rachel Roy and host, Estelle, we were treated to Good Humor ice cream outside the shop (did I mention my two favorite loves are dessert and fashion?).

My friend Patrice loving her free ice cream!

Once they arrived, looking beautiful of course, they chatted it up with shoppers and fans then just lounged and took in the scene. Here's a picture they tweeted from Rachel Roy's account (twitter.com/rachel_roy). I personally love the two of them together and cannot wait for their upcoming jewelry line!

Just as we were preparing to head out, in walks Iman looking statuesque and flawless. Everyone in the store went crazy as no one was expecting a guest appearance from the famed model/mogul, who was as gracious and sweet as ever! We had a wonderful time hanging out with them, but there was so much more to see!

THIRD STOP: INTERMIX

We hit the Soho streets again only to run into a mob of fans chasing Vogue Editor-in-Chief and September Issue star, Anna Wintour down the street. I've never seen an impeccably-dressed fashion editor run so fast in my life. I'm sure after she got to safety, though, she was pleased with the great success of Fashion's Night Out in NYC and all over the world (I heard London gave us a run for our money!). Congratulations, Queen Anna! Congratulations.

Inside Intermix, the diva of all divas was spotted hitting the dance floor. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Rihanna, was partying inside the store in a hooded black dress, gloves, a spiky bracelet and these uber-cool studded sunglasses. Of course, she added a fierce red lip. Does it get any hotter than that? I don't think so!

Once outside, we decided to hit up the Rocawear 25th Anniversary party uptown and as we went to hail a cab, we caught a glimpse of stylist to the stars, June Ambrose, modeling in the storefront window of Alexander McQueen! It was hilarious!!

LAST STOP: ROCAWEAR PARTY

At last, the final party of the night. We hit Rocawear's 10th Anniversary party to celebrate the great success of the brand and rub shoulders with our fellow industry fashionistas and fashionistos. We ended the night partying to tunes from Jay-Z's new album Blueprint 3 (LOVE Empire State of Mind with Alicia Keys) and shooting the breeze with Fashion's elite. And as I'm rapping at the top of my lungs, who walks by? None other than Jay-Z dressed head-to-toe in black and wearing signature stunner shades. We even spotted Beyonce on the scene supporting her hubby! Unbelievable.

Wow. I had no idea when I blogged earlier about Fashion's Night Out, that I'd be shopping and partying with some of the hottest stars in the music biz. It was an amazing night and I loved every minute of it - can't wait until the next one! Glamazons, what was your favorite moment of Fashion's Night Out? Who was your favorite star sighting? And let me know what great pieces you bought at the events.

Kisses,

Coutura

Front Row: BCBGMaxAzria Spring 2010 Collection with Solange, Amerie and Keri Hilson

Hey Glamazons!

Fashion Week is off to a fabulous start. This morning, the Glamazons, along with Keri Hilson, Solange and Amerie, checked out one of the hottest shows at the tents, BCBGMaxAzria. The show's message? The 80's is here to stay. Max Azria blew us away this season with his signature bandaged minidress (usually a staple at Herve Leger) with an exuberant, youthful twist. He experimented with eye-popping graphic prints and vibrant brights from hot pink to apple green. The silhouette was slouchy and comfortable as elegant---and super-flattering---draping ruled. Along with sexy bandaged minis, the asymmetric neckline is back for another season but this time, with racy, sheer cut-outs that are sure to turn heads. Mixed in with the electric neons were sophisticated neutrals like wispy white and gorgeous gray. And he even graced us with a few, floor-length fitted dresses with beautiful, show-stopping prints.

Check out some blurry pics of our faves (sorry - the models move fast!):

Here's the man of the hour at the end of the show. Such a tremendous talent!

And now for the front row! Sexy starlets, Solange, Keri Hilson and Amerie ruled the front row in glam, fashion-forward looks. We had to fight tons of photographers, reporters, camera crews and bloggers just to get to them! Complete mania but Ferocia and I are up for the challenge!

Solange wore a vintage black jacket with ropes strewn across the front and black sweats with a pop of color on the lips. Her haircut is even more stunning in person.

Keri Hilson rocked a gray BCBG tunic, mini and platforms, a spiky silver necklace and her signature, highlighted haircut.

And fashion darling, Amerie, was gorgeous in a green BCBG dress, black Gucci booties and a matching clutch. Love that she remembered me from chatting at the office! She dished that she's super excited to see "BCBG, Davidelfin, Mara Hoffman and Fashion's Night Out" tonight. Maybe we'll see her at the FNO events?

Stay tuned for more. =)

A Day in the Life: Anna Sui for Target Shopping Event

Hey Glamazons!

Ready, set, fashion! The tents are swarming with fashionistas from all over the world gathering to see the best and brightest designers the city has to offer. The Glamazons, of course, are on hand to capture all the excitement, starting with yesterday night. After shopping at TopShop all day to prepare for Fashion Week, I spent my evening downtown at the Anna Sui for Target editor shopping preview (the collection hits stores September 14th).

Who gets to meet Anna Sui twice in one summer and to see and shop the Gossip Girls-inspired collection before the public? Thank you, Fashion Gods! As soon as we hit the white tent downtown, where the event was held, the first order of business was hitting the racks. I scored an amazing grey wool dress with spiked details on the neckline (inspired by Gossip Girl's Serena) and a pair of ripped tough luxe pair of tights (inspired by Gossip Girl's Jenny). See both pieces below - lovelovelove them!

Speaking of Jenny, Taylor Momsen was there in her bleached blonde glory shopping the collection.

Among the guests sipping champagne and chatting on the red carpet, we spotted June Ambrose and Jessica White. The latter proudly showed off her long blonde weave but I prefer the bob she sported on the Terrell Owens show. What do you think?

June Ambrose tweeted this pic of her on the red carpet last night. She looks fab as usual!

Jessica White's blonde look.

Not my favorite. Bobs are definitely the way to go (check out Beautylicious and my bobbed styles below).

Love that the red carpet was decorated with newspaper headlines gossiping about the collection. It was such a nice touch!

Uber-glam! We headed to bed early to rest up for a BCBG, Charlotte Ronson and L.A.M.B. on Thursday...oh and Fashion's Night Out! Stay tuned for all the juicy details from the frontrow to backstage.

The Glamazons on ESSENCE.COM

Hey Glamazons! It's been a crazy couple of days for us. Trying to prep for NY Fashion Week is no joke and we haven't had a chance to rest yet! Between calling in fashion credits and editing beauty pages, we've also been trying to send out RSVPs to the fashion shows.
This season, we've been asked to do NYFW coverage for Essence.com and we're super excited about this amazing opportunity! Be sure to tune in daily (beginning tomorrow, Sept 9) for up-to-the-minute coverage of all things fashionably fabulous! (And, of course, you know that you can still come here as well for even more NYFW behind the scenes coverage.)
In addition to getting all of the logistical stuff done, we've been prepping ourselves (because you can't attend NYFW looking a hot mess...duh!) We recently took a mini shopping trip downtown to TopShop and found some hot finds...check out some of the looks below and let us know what you think!

Princess why?

I adore Princesse Tam Tam, cute and sexy French lingerie at its most fashionable...but I dont understand their new model choice....note the old blonde 'curvy' (probably still a size 6) but with lucious curves in all the right places, so refreshing yet still with an on trend editorial look. Now they bring in the tired 'young boy' look.....next! Princesse Tam Tam I really did think better!

Magazine Glam: Tyra to Launch Fashion Mag

Hey Glamazons!

Former Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated supermodel Tyra Banks is going behind the scenes to launch her own fashion title, according to WWD. Tyra: Beauty Inside & Out emerges as the latest business venture from the business mogul, who already has a popular talk show and reality show on her roster.

The web-only magazine will employ six full-time staffers and feature topics ranging from beauty and fashion to healthy living and relationships. In true, shrewd business-woman fashion, Tyra sidestepped the flailing print industry to explore the burgeoning online media world. The site will launch today at 5PM with a competition for America's Next Top Model Cycle 14, where the winner gets an interview in the final round of the audition process.

Are you excited for the launch of Tyra's magazine? Will you be logging in? Discuss.
