TRY THIS: Maybelline Fit Me! Collection

While normal people hole up in their apartments on snow days and watch movies and do other domesticated things like say cook and clean, I play with makeup. I know, sounds really strange (especially when you see that I store the stuff in my kitchen cabinets, too) but it's really not that crazy of a thing especially when you consider the fact that I've already professed my beauty junkie habits several times before on this blog. Plus, you (as the reader) totally benefit from it in that you get to find out what I think about each of the products.

With that said, let me tell you about a pretty awesome collection that came my way last week: Maybelline's Fit Me! Collection. Side note: It was KIND of amazing that I received these products because I totally wrote about it here last year and I've been itching to get my hands on the stuff ever since! This is the first drugstore brand foundation, powder and concealer that I've found actually melts into my skin just like a prestige brand! There are 18 shades of foundation and powder, 6 shades of concealer, 12 shades of blush and 3 shades of bronzer so there's no way that you won't find the perfect shade for you. Here's a breakdown of each product in the line:

Fit Me! Foundation has a translucent base mixed with lightweight pigments that allow the foundation to give an excellent replication of the shade on the skin. (All of this according to the press release of course.) My take on it? It's super creamy yet very light and is the perfect non-foundation foundation. (You know, so you can create that whole "I'm not really wearing makeup" look.) It contains SPF 18 and retails for $7.99.

Fit Me! Powder is (yep! you guessed it!) also lightweight and blendable and leaves a non-cakey finish. Each of its 18 shades corresponds perfectly with the FIT ME! Foundation. ($7.99)

Fit Me! Concealer also contains the same formulation as the foundation to conceal imperfections without hiding skins natural imperfections. Translation from the press release: this stuff goes on smooth and doesn't do those other weird things that most drug store concealers do like just sit on top of whatever zit or pimple you're trying to conceal. ($6.49)

Fit Me! Blush features a silky, soft texture for easy blending and contains a soft, lasting fade-free natural color. Now, you know that as much as I abhor blush, I've been wearing it a bit more often than usual. So, even though I totally didn't want to put this stuff on, I did and was pleasantly surprised to see that it melded right into my skin without looking clownish. Amaze! ($5.51)

The best part about all of these products is not just how they look on you, but how they look in the stores. The stands in the drugstore contain what's called the "Fit Finder" tool making it super easy to find the right shades for you. Also, they each have numbers on them so if you're a 220 in foundation, then you're also a 220 in powder and concealer.

All of these products are available for purchase now at a drugstore near you, so you should probably go get your own set and test 'em out for yourselves! (Don't worry, you can thank me for the recommendation later.)

GET THE LOOK (Spring 2011 Fashion Week Edition): Z by Zac Posen

Judging by the majority of the beauty looks that traipsed the runways, color will be big for the Spring 2011 season! Backstage at the Z by Zac Posen show, makeup artist Charlotte Willer (for Maybelline) said the look was inspired by theatrical street performances.
"The makeup has a strong vibe with pops of color and a little edgy playfulness to it," she said. "Bright bold shades on the eyes and cheeks and lots of flirty lashes compliment the femininity, humor and sex appeal of Zac's designs."

Here are the products that she used:
-Maybelline Volum' Express the Falsies Mascara
-Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow in Give Me Gold, Copper Chic and Sapphire Siren Palettes
*Charlotte applied Sapphire Siren all over the lid and extended to the brow bone for one look. Give Me Gold and Copper Chic created a more muted color statement but extended outward for a dramatic cat eye effect.
-Maybelline Color Sensational Lipcolor in Very Cherry, Park Avenue Pink, and Backstage #4 (a bright orange created specifically for Fashion Week!)
-Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation
-Maybelline Define-A-Brow Eyebrow Pencil

Lead hairstylist Odile Gilbert (along with 18 hair stylists) helped to create three different looks that got2b celeb stylist Larry Sims described as a "modern-day Marie Antoinette."
Lucky for you, Sims shared these expert tips on how you can create the look at home:

Deconstructed Bun
-First, curl the hair with a 1/4 inch iron and be sure to curl the sections in opposite directions. Then, set with hairspray.
-After curling, brush the hair out until it's frizzy and then pull into a bun on the very top of the head leaving a few loose tendrils along the hair line.

Playful Pony
-Brush curled hair back into a pony, smoothing strands with hairspray. Like the bun, be sure to leave a few loose tendrils around the hairline.

French twist
-This punkish, rocker-chic look features a French roll in the back and some curly curls on top. (It's totally 80's and I loved it!) Sims suggests that you curl the front of the hair into a small section and then pull the rest back, twist and secure with a few pins so it still looks undone. Use tons of hairspray to hold.

What do you think of this beauty look, Glamazons? I definitely love the eye makeup..so much fun! OH and click here to buy the products so you can rock the look:

Maybelline Launches New Collection Called 'Fit Me'

As if being the official cosmetics sponsors of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (shows start this week! Eeek!) Maybelline is launching a new collection called Fit Me.
According to WWD, the four-product face line was created to offer a newer take on the "shade true" category and will include a foundation, powder, concealer, blush and three bronzers.
All products in the line utilize "skin merge technology" which is just a fancy way of saying that it promises to match skin tone and blend in easily.
The foundations all include SPF 18 and are numbered accordingly to match the powders so it will be easier to find your shade while shopping at the drugstore. Both powders and foundations will retail for $7.99; concealer for $6.49 and blush and bronzers for $5.51 each.
Hmmm...I haven't gotten my hands on any of the products yet Glamazons but this seems like it should be interesting. As far as drugstore beauty goes, I don't really wear Maybelline's foundations but I will rock the heck out of their mascaras and lip glosses. However, I'm willing to give this new stuff a shot. No word as to when the collection will hit stores (has anyone seen it yet?!) but I just wanted to call your attention to it so it will be on your beauty radars.

Spring Fever: Maybelline New York Sweet Thing Collection

Hey Glamazons! As you know, pretty pastels are all the rage for the spring season and (this may be partly due to the warmer temps and sunshine here in NY right now) but I've been itching to rock the look. If you're looking to do the same (without breaking the bank) then hit your local drugstore and scoop Maybelline's Sweet Thing collection. This special limited edition line includes a delectable assortment of super girly palettes of candy colored shades and is available in stores starting this month (March 2010).
Pictured here are shades from the Express Finish Nail Color line ($4.25 apiece).
Below are shades and swipes from the rest of the collection:

Color Sensational Lip Gloss

(from l to r): Sweet & Sassy; Sweet Tooth; Strawberry Glaze; Triple Yum; Sweet Caramel
(from top to bottom): Sweet & Sassy; Sweet Tooth; Strawberry Glaze; Triple Yum and Sweet Caramel
Price: $6.49 apiece
My Pick: Strawberry Glaze. It's the perfect shade for everyday wear and I really like the punch of light pink it adds to my lips.

Expert Wear Duo Eye Shadow

(from l to r): Excite-Mint; Pie In The Sky; Goody Plum Drop; Just Peachy
Price: $4.50 apiece
My Pick: Pie In The Sky. I love wearing blue eyeshadow, but realize it can be a bit much for daytime wear. This shade leaves just right the amount of blue on my lids without being too overwhelming.

Eye Express Cream Shadow Stick

(from l to r): Lovely Lilac and Minty
Also available in: Oh My Meringue; Touch of Toffee; A La Mauve and Frosted
Price: $6.95 apiece
My Pick: Lovely Lilac. Such a sheer wash of color but with awesome lasting power. If the thought of layering eyeshadow scares you, try using these shadow sticks. The rounded applicator tips make for easy application and you can blend by smudging with your fingertips.
