Can A Model of Color Win This High Fashion Season of 'America's Next Top Model'?

For this season (excuse me, cycle) of America Model Back Then, Tyra is not playing. Given the fact that his show has not managed to actually produce a supermodel, Tyra retired from all stops this season to strengthen the credibility of the show. It raised the stakes: The winner of this season gets a contract with Best Management the model, IMG. For those who do not understand the magnitude of a face is IMG, Gisele, Alek Wek, Heidi Klum and Kate Moss are all IMG models. The winner will also get the cover and two editorials in Italia Vogue, coverage Beauty In Vogue, binding contract with CoverGirl $ 100,000. Tyra has sought help from legendary designers such as Roberto Cavalli and Diane von Furstenberg to inaugurate the new COP girls in a state of mind of haute couture. All models are tall and thin, this series lacks the symbolic one or two more companies girls.

This cycle is probably one of the most exciting seasons Top Model took a long time, maybe ever. But it is exciting because of the price, not necessarily because of the diversity of models. I would say it's probably one of the least diversified cycle of Top Model ever. All the girls seem to be either black or Caucasian. There is no Latina or Asian competitors, or at least none that seem to be. All this is understandable in terms of the fashion industry: if really Tyra wants to return as a successful high fashion model, she must meet the standards of the industry and high fashion. That means, as excited as the girls turn to us, they still have to adapt to a very specific, very rigid mold.

This brings me to the big question that was on my mind once I heard about this season: a non-white model can even win this time? With the alarming lack of models of color in the industry and the difficulties they face in terms of being featured in advertisements and differences, I would say that Tyra has no choice but to choose a model White as the winner of this season. A recently released documentary entitled The Color Beauty chronic struggles of a Black-Scholes to break into the industry of haute couture. The public has shown an alarming amount of prejudice and nonsense, sad, and because of general offensive in the fashion world with regard to why they do not choose black models in particular. This is how the industry!

So, with all the difficulties that come from being a color model, and the fact that Tyra is furiously trying to take his show to a real level of legitimacy, would it not make sense for her to choose a white model to win this season? This is not entirely impossible for a color model to make it big or demand: Chanel Iman, Du Juan and Lakshmi Menon are all models of color who are very popular among designers. But the models face difficulties in terms of color to find work, even when they have broken in the high fashion industry (just read the report on Jezebel dearth of black models featured at this year September issues makes it less safe for Tyra to Pick a color model as the winner of this season. It is a sad but true fact.
