Jillian Michaels has fired back at a scathing LATimes Op of an experienced personal trainer, who critiques her education, hertechniques and her assertion that people can lose five pounds a week with herfitness DVDs. The entire LA Times piece is here and it is worthread if you bought one of Michaels' DVDs and especially if you areconsidering doing her kettle bell workout. The author quotes several otherpersonal trainers who take issue with her form on her new kettle bell DVDcalling it both difficult to follow and potentially dangerous. It is not ameasured criticism and gets pretty nasty and personal at times. Here are some ofArticle:
[From LA Times]
The article goes on to slam Michaels' assertion that you can lose five pounds aweek with her workout and explains the many ways this is both unhealthy andunrealistic.
Here is a link to the YouTube kettle bell demonstration(Cited in the article above) shows how to properly train with kettlebells. The trainer in the video, Jude Howe says Michaels' technique is poorand relatively unsafe, and discusses the technical reasons why you should not dotraining the way she shows it. And here is a link to the above blogin article to discuss how Michaels' kettle bell training downpeople at high risk of back injury. I've never worked out with kettle bells, butthey seem really dangerous if you do not know what you're doing. These are veryheavy weights you swing around, and you have to maintain proper formIn order to avoid hurting yourself. After watching these videos I definitely wantgiving them a chance, though.
In responses to this article, Jillian says that she is obviously well educatedand keeps up with her continuing education classes. She also threatened toapplicant LA Times for publishing the piece. a trainer. I currently own two certifications, one does not expire. Ideveloped my own continuing education of teachers, with sports medicinedoctors.
That article had a lot of very specific criticism of Michaels' form, whileteaching kettlebells and it was not about her lack of education in general, although it took some cheap shots in that direction. Is she going to sue anyoneteachers who gave quotes says she does it wrong? It seems like they areon anything. She can not even act the part of a personal trainerand she is certainly experienced in this area. If she does not know how to teachkettlebells properly she would not make DVDs with dangerous movementscan potentially harm humans, is all.
Michaels is currently facing several lawsuits over false claims about her
