Thierry Mugler Introduces New Fragrance: Womanity

Finally Glamazons! A fragrance created with real women such as myself, Coutura and you in mind.
I will admit that I've been slightly swamped as of late (already slightly is an understatement; I'm swamped) and I didn't even get a chance to attend the actual launch event the brand invited me to last month. However, I was sure to request a bottle so I could check it out and then it stayed right there in the box on my dresser until yesterday. It was pretty late and I'd just finished brainstorming some more beauty post ideas for Glamour.com, when I decided that a good spritz of fragrance would provide the pick-me-up I needed.
My eyes went to SJPNYC (Sarah Jessica Parker's newest fragrance) because it makes me feel all Sex And The Cityish (yes, sometimes I pretend that I'm Carrie Bradshaw..don't judge me) but then I opened up the pink box of Womanity instead.
And wowza! This stuff is amazing, Glamazons. First off, let's talk about the packaging. There may be light pink liquid inside, but it looks very strong; almost like an Amazonian-totem-pole-statuette-thingie wouldn't you say?
Thierry Mugler said that he designed the bottle to look this way because "it is designed for a woman who leaves her mark; like a woman who would have her statue made." However, he said that he created it with practicality in mind. "This is very important for me and for women in terms of their everyday lives," he said.
Now, let's get into the actual fragrance. The cool part about this stuff is that it contains the strangest ingredients. It opens with a note of fig, then there are notes of caviar and somehow it manages to get all woodsy with some fig wood and leaf. See? Doesn't sound too enticing, right? But that Mugler is some kind of fragrance genius in that he got the combination just right so it smells sweet, spicy and dries down to some serious sexy.
Now it's your turn to try it! Womanity will be available for purchase at Bloomingdale's next week (August 2010) and Nordstrom as well as http://us.boutique.thierrymugler.com by October 2010.
Prices range from $98 (for 2.7 oz) to $58 (for 1.0 fl oz). There's also a shower gel ($40); body milk ($45); body cream ($55); and 1.7 oz refill bottle ($58).
Let us know what you think of it once you nab your own bottle!

GLAM OR SHAM?: Cynthia Nixon Wears A Long Weave to the Sex and the City II London Premiere

Let me start off by saying: I love the color of Cynthia Nixon's teal Narciso Rodriguez gown. It makes her strawberry blonde curls and eye color pop. Her earrings are also stunning. But that's where the compliments end.

I am the Weave Queen but her extensions looks super thin, and obviously fake. It seems as if Cynthia's hairstylist randomly decided to clip in a track before she stepped out the limo.

A better job of blending, and a thicker head of hair, would've fared better here. And I would've wore my hair off my neck in a gown that boasts such an intricate neckline.

Speaking of the neckline, I would've loved to see Cynthia in a dress that filled out her bust. This dress brings attention to her bustline, and not in a good way.

What do you think? Do you like Cynthia's long hair? What do you think of the gown? Glam or Sham?

MAGAZINE GLAM: The Sex and the City Girls Cover Marie Claire

There are no words to describe how excited I am for Sex and the City II. (Stay tuned, your favorite Glamazons might be in attendance at the red-carpet premiere!).

Fortunately for me (and SATC addicts everywhere), the new Marie Claire issue will satisfy my craving for Manolos, Cosmos and camels until the movie hits theaters. For the June 2010 issue, Marie Claire gives each SATC girl their own cover dressed in a festive, character-appropriate metallic frock.

On the covers, Sarah Jessica Parker wears an adventurous Balmain dress, Kim Cattrall goes Vixen in a Valentino frock (hello cleavage!) and Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon model demure Dior. They look equally fabulous.

Check out more pics below plus a clip for the interview. (Summary: the actresses sometimes clash given the demanding filming schedule but at the end of the day, the love, and the labels, are still there.)

SJP on the demands of working on the film: “When you’re on set, you’re working 90-hour weeks, you’re never home, you’re exhausted. There are times when all of us have been sensitive, and sometimes feelings get hurt. But I don’t have any regrets about how I’ve treated people.”
Kristin on how they used to let loose: “When we first started, we would all drive out to the Hamptons together at 4 a.m. on a Friday night after shooting ended and see the sunrise as we arrived. I love those memories.”
SJP on being influenced by Carrie’s style: “I’ve never revealed as much or been so daring or made quite as many triumphant mistakes as Carrie. But I’m now bolder than I would have been had I never played this part.”
Kim on the rumored infighting between the ladies: “The press has to put women in these boxes, rather than show them as the movie portrays them: working together and being powerful. Things just have to be explosive for no other reason then for people’s imaginations.”

Met Costume Institute Gala: SJP's Pretty Waves

OK, it may look like she's channeling her inner Carrie Bradshaw (when does Carrie end and SJP begin?!) but I like it. (Maybe because I'm such a huge Sex And The City fan...I can hardly wait to see the upcoming film!) I could have done without the big side bow, but I loved the soft waves, nude lip and soft smokey eye. So feminine and pretty!

MAGAZINE GLAM: Is Sarah Jessica Parker too Airbrushed in May Vogue...and the Sex and the City II Ad?

Sarah Jessica Parker is something of a fashion icon. So it's only natural that she grace the cover of Vogue for the umpteenth time to discuss the release of Sex and the City II, starring her fashion-obsessed character, Carrie. The surprise here, is well, her face. It almost looks computer-generated.

Everything else about the May cover, shot by Mario Testino and styled by Tonne Goodman, is perfection from Sarah's brilliant blue dress to her radiant smile (she's so charming!) but the photoshop job is scary! It's almost as awful as Sarah's last rendezvous with Photoshop for the Sex and the City II poster, where she looks like she visited Mars in the movie, instead of Abu Dhabi. And what's with her eyes?

With French Marie Claire ditching Photoshop for the April issue, and Kim Kardashian showing up naked and allegedly "not retouched" in Bazaar, we have to wonder why Vogue and SATC II picked the worst possible time to be heavy-handed with airbrushing.

We all know SJP isn't Demi Moore, aesthetically (though Sarah's body is..completely perfect) and that's part of Carrie's charm. The everyday woman, who isn't a beauty God, can relate to Carrie's imperfections (that were highlighted in the episode in the First Season when she was best friends with a modelizer and dated a model who liked her nose because it was "different." Yeah, I'm like an encyclopedia for Sex and the City episodes...but I digress...).

So what does it say to that everyday woman, who related to Carrie, when you have to distort SJP's facial features until she's nearly unrecognizable in order to sell a magazine, or a movie? Nothing positive...nothing positive, at all.

So please, Vogue editors and SATC II ad execs, walk away from Photoshop. Carrie's fine the way she is. Thanks!

FIRST LOOK! Sex and the City 2 Movie Trailer

Glamazons,

Cheers to the return of our favorite girls!

The Sex and the City trailer hit the internet today and so far, I am thrilled with the fashions I see---Dior, turbans, gold-mirrored shades, a tux and Carrie's 80's crimped hair---and did I mention the trailer plays Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' chart-topping New York City anthem, "Empire State of Mind," in the background? It doesn't get much more fabulous than that.

Oh wait, it does. Riding a camel in runway-worthy fashions takes fabulous to a new level (I rode a camel this summer in wedge heels as the Moroccan natives laughed in the background - glad to see the SATC girls know the importance of a "desert chic" outfit no matter the occasion! Haha).

No real plot revelations yet except that the girls travel to the Middle East, Carrie's still head over heels for BIG, Miranda and Charlotte are both busy making a home for their families and Samantha encounters a new, disarmingly handsome plaything. Also, looks like a gay couple gets married!! Stamford, is that you?

I can't wait to see what twists and turns await us in the new film, which rumors to touch on financial troubles (which I'm happy about because it makes the girls' lives more realistic and less frivolous) and of course, drama in their love lives (BIG better not act up this time around!).

So ladies, slide into your Carrie-inspired Manolos and check out the trailer below. The film will be released on May 28th.

What do you think?

Coutura
